A high-gloss surface produces sharper highlights and makes reflected light a visible part of the design. A matt finish aluminum composite panel softens those highlights, so the eye reads the color and geometry more consistently across changing viewing angles. That is useful for shopfronts, ceilings, wall linings, sign systems and facades where glare can distract from the architecture or brand color.
Matte is not automatically “better” than gloss. It is a different surface direction. The right choice depends on lighting, viewing distance, color, cleaning method, surrounding glass or metal, and whether the installation is interior or exposed outdoors. A dark charcoal low gloss ACP can feel quieter and more monolithic than the same color in high gloss; a pale matte panel can reduce visual hotspots under strong artificial lighting.

Two suppliers can both quote “matte white ACP” while using different gloss levels, coatings, aluminum skins and cores. There is no single international gloss value that makes every coated panel “matte.” If the distinction affects approval, use an agreed measurement method or an identified sample.
“Matte” describes how the surface looks under light; it does not by itself define outdoor durability. The coating system still needs to match the application.
