Specify an insulated aluminum sandwich panel or aluminum composite insulation panel by the complete build-up—not by the product name alone. A thermal insulation sandwich panel is a layered panel in which two facing sheets are bonded to a core that contributes rigidity, insulation or both. In building-envelope searches, the term often refers to thick insulated metal panels with foam or mineral-fiber cores. An aluminum composite insulation panel, however, can also mean an ACP/ACM sheet used as the exterior or interior face of an insulated façade assembly.
For procurement, the safest comparison is not the name. Compare total panel thickness, face-sheet material, core type, declared thermal value, fire classification, coating, joint design and complete wall U-value. ACP alone is not a substitute for a thick insulation layer when a low U-value is required.
The same phrase can describe very different products. DERACP recommends controlling every layer in the RFQ so that the quotation, sample, technical file and bulk production refer to the same construction.
Engineering note: Do not assign a façade U-value to the visible ACP sheet alone unless the calculation or test actually covers that product and assembly. Thermal bridges through brackets, rails, fixings and framing can materially affect the installed result.
Use this comparison to determine which product language belongs in your tender. It helps prevent a decorative composite sheet from being compared directly with a thick thermal-envelope panel.

For true insulated sandwich panels, core thickness is a major driver of thermal resistance. For rainscreen ACP systems, the separate insulation layer behind the cladding is usually more important.
Metal brackets, rails, screws, window perimeter details and slab edges can bypass insulation. Review the complete wall calculation rather than assuming the nominal insulation R-value equals installed performance.
Gaps, open joints, panel interfaces and transitions must be coordinated with air, water and thermal-control layers. The visible aluminum surface is only one part of the building envelope.
Hot, cold, humid, coastal and high-solar-load environments place different demands on coating, cavity ventilation, condensation control, joint movement and insulation strategy.
State whether your requirement is panel-only R-value, center-of-panel U-value, whole-wall U-value or project energy-code compliance. These are not interchangeable metrics.
For many commercial projects, the preferred thermal strategy is not to make the thin ACP sheet do every job. Instead, the ACP provides the architectural face while the wall behind it handles continuous insulation, air control, water management and structural support.
A dedicated thick-core insulated aluminum sandwich panel may be more appropriate when the panel itself must provide most of the insulation and enclosure function—for example, selected industrial walls, prefabricated enclosures, roof systems or curtain-wall spandrel/infill concepts.

All technical values, classification documents, sizes, tolerances, MOQ, lead time and construction options should be reconfirmed for the exact quoted product before order approval.
Use ACP as the visible architectural layer while continuous insulation and air/water control are designed behind the ventilated cavity.
Coordinate aluminum faces, insulation or spandrel build-up, interior liner, perimeter seals and interface geometry with the glazing system.
Where thermal separation, acoustic control or cleanable decorative surfaces are needed, define the complete partition build rather than only the outer sheet.
Specify temperature range, condensation risk, corrosion exposure, joint sealing, insulation core and maintenance requirements for equipment or process areas.

No. ACP/ACM is normally a thin composite sheet for cladding, interiors and signage. A dedicated insulated aluminum sandwich panel usually has a much thicker thermal core. The two products may both contain aluminum faces but serve different envelope functions.
ACP contributes some thermal resistance because it contains multiple layers, but a thin ACP sheet is generally not the primary insulation layer in a high-performance façade. In rainscreen construction, the continuous insulation behind the ACP usually provides most of the thermal resistance.
