Brushed stainless steel direction
A fine linear grain can create the clean, technical appearance associated with brushed stainless steel. Specify tone, brush density and gloss rather than relying on “inox” as a complete description.
A stainless steel look aluminum composite panel gives designers the visual language of brushed inox while keeping the panel format, flatness and fabrication workflow expected from ACP/ACM. DERACP helps buyers define the surface together with panel build, grain direction, coating, core, dimensions and approval method—so the finish is ordered as a controlled project specification rather than a vague “silver” description.
For architects, fabricators and project buyers, the key difference is surface behavior. A steel finish ACM with a linear brush pattern reacts to light according to grain direction. Two adjacent panels can be nominally the same finish yet appear different when one sheet is rotated. That makes orientation control, physical sample approval and batch traceability part of the visual specification.

Fabrication drawings, nesting, protective film and installation should preserve one agreed direction across visible modules. This is especially important on long walls, columns and continuous retail elevations.
Screen colors cannot fully represent reflection, hairline texture or undertone. Review the sample in the lighting conditions that matter to the project and record the approved reference for bulk production.
A useful quotation should identify the entire panel, not just the decorative surface. DERACP’s published product information covers multiple ACP constructions, coatings, thicknesses and custom-size directions; the exact combination should be confirmed for the selected series and application.
| RFQ field | What to define | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Stainless steel look, brushed / hairline direction, target tone, gloss | Controls the visual result and sample approval basis. |
| Panel thickness | State required total ACP/ACM thickness | Affects rigidity, fabrication method and system design. |
| Aluminum skins | Front and back skin thickness stated separately | Improves quotation comparability and supports fabrication planning. |
| Core | Standard or fire-rated direction, subject to project requirement | Core selection should match the required building use and documentation. |
| Surface system / coating | Interior or exterior exposure, cleaning environment, required coating direction | The visual finish and the weathering requirement are separate decisions. |
| Size | Width × length × quantity; note module or cut-size constraints | Project-sized sheets can improve yield and reduce unnecessary joints or scrap. |
| Direction | Grain arrow on protective film and fabrication drawings | Prevents accidental 90° / 180° rotation on visible elevations. |
| Documentation | Required fire, material, coating or project submittal documents | Ensures the ordered construction matches the approval package. |
For reception walls, elevator surrounds, shopfitting, display systems, column wraps and ceiling details, visual consistency and fabrication efficiency often dominate the purchase decision. Confirm scratch sensitivity, cleaning method, edge detailing, adhesive or fixing method and the lighting under which the finish will be judged.
Where the panel is weather exposed, appearance is only one part of the specification. Review the surface/coating system, aluminum skins, core, subframe interface, joints, module size and the documents required by the façade design. Exterior suitability should be confirmed for the exact construction rather than inferred from the finish name.
These materials can serve different design and engineering goals. A steel-look ACP is normally chosen when a project wants a stainless visual language in a composite-panel workflow; solid stainless steel may be specified when the metal itself is required for its material properties or a particular detailing approach.
ACP is familiar to many sign, interior and façade fabricators because it can be routed, folded and fabricated into cassettes or returns using established composite-panel methods.
A decorative brushed ACM finish can provide a repeatable metal-look surface, but its exact tone and linear grain should still be controlled through a retained physical sample.
Do not treat the two materials as structurally interchangeable. Panel thickness, face metals, core, supports, fixings, fire requirements and system calculations must follow the actual specified material.
Reception walls, lift lobbies, partitions and architectural details where a restrained industrial or technical metal appearance is wanted.
Storefront surrounds, counters, feature walls, display systems and branded environments that need a directional brushed surface with panel fabrication flexibility.
Column wraps, fascia bands and soffit elements where lightweight sheet-format fabrication can simplify forming and installation compared with heavier metal assemblies.
Architectural signs, plaques and display backgrounds where the stainless look supports premium visual contrast. Confirm printing, vinyl or bonding compatibility for the chosen surface.
Decorative wall and panel zones in controlled environments where a metal visual is desired. Cleaning chemicals and mechanical-abuse requirements should be stated before selection.
Exterior or sheltered elevations can be discussed when the exact finish system, panel construction, fixing design and project documentation are suitable for the exposure.
Brushed steel-look surfaces show direction—and can also show handling marks. A well-controlled fabrication plan should keep the visible face protected while maintaining grain orientation through cutting, routing, folding, labeling, packing and installation.
For appearance-critical programs, request a physical sample route and keep the approved sample identity in the purchase order and repeat-order records.
Define the visual reference, grain direction, module rhythm, joint expression, edge returns, interior/exterior exposure and physical sample approval procedure.
Focus on total panel build, skin gauges, routing/folding behavior, cassette geometry, fixing interface, protective film and orientation control.
Build repeatable SKUs around size, surface code, core, film printing, packing, pallet marks, batch traceability and reorder sample references.

It is an aluminum composite panel specified to create a stainless-steel-like visual effect, usually through a brushed, hairline or inox-style decorative surface. The full material still needs to be defined by total thickness, aluminum skins, core, surface system, dimensions and intended application.
No. A steel-look ACP may use aluminum skins with a decorative stainless-steel-style finish, while a stainless-steel-faced composite panel uses actual stainless steel as a face material. If the project requires real stainless steel, specify grade, face thickness and panel construction explicitly.
The brushed surface is directional. Light reflected along the grain can make rotated panels appear different even when they carry the same finish code. Keep the orientation consistent from cutting through installation.
Potentially, but exterior suitability depends on the exact surface/coating system, aluminum skins, core, panel construction, fixing system, climate and project documentation. Confirm the intended exposure with DERACP before finalizing the specification.
Brushed ACP shows a linear grain; metallic ACP typically uses a metallic visual effect that changes with viewing angle; mirror ACP is selected for a much more reflective decorative surface. They should not be treated as interchangeable finish names.
DERACP publishes custom-size and project-oriented ACP supply directions. Send the required width, length, quantity, protective film, labeling and packing needs so they can be reviewed together with the panel construction and finish.
Include application, reference finish, grain direction, panel thickness, aluminum skin, core, size, quantity, destination and any required project documents. For a visible architectural surface, ask to confirm the appearance against a physical sample before bulk production.
